Frequently Asked Questions
What is PEMF?
PEMF therapy stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. It’s a non-invasive treatment where electromagnetic fields are used to improve healing and reduce pain and inflammation. These fields are applied to the body through various devices, such as mats, pads, or handheld devices, which deliver
electromagnetic pulses to targeted areas. PEMF is a drug-free way to increase oxygenation and circulation while enhancing the bodies natural functions.
How long has PEMF therapy been used?
PEMF therapy has been used for over 50 years. It was initially developed by scientists to simulate the Earth’s natural magnetic field, which is important for human health. The use of electromagnetic fields for therapeutic purposes has evolved over time, with research and technological advancements leading to a better understanding of its applications and benefits. Today, PEMF therapy is used in various medical fields, including orthopedics, sports medicine, and pain management, among others.
Is PEMF the same as magnetic therapy blankets?
While the therapies are similar, PEMF is not a static magnet. PEMF provides deeper penetration through different delivery methods. PEMF therapy devices
can deliver electromagnetic fields at specific frequencies and intensities, which can be adjusted based on the therapeutic goals. Other magnetic therapy blankets may not offer the same level of control over frequency and intensity.
How long does a session take?
Session times vary greatly depending on the animal and what we’re trying to accomplish. Sessions can be anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes on average.
Can PEMF be used before an event?
Yes, but we recommend you try it before an event. Every animal reacts differently to PEMF therapy. Some are very relaxed after a session and may not have that “edge” before an event. Other animals are fine and it does not affect their
performance.
How long should I wait to work my animal after a session?
There is no wait! You can work your horse/pet right after a session or wait until the next day. It is entirely up to you.
Why is my animal “twitching”?
PEMF therapy will often cause muscle movements. When this happens, it means the waves have reached a point of resistance and are reverberating back. Usually this is caused by inflammation. It is 100% normal and not anything to worry about!
